The 2002 Rally of the Giants Muncie, Indiana
This 4-day event was held June 13-16 at the beautiful AMA National Flying site. We did have some rain and wind at times but the wind was down the runway and the rain came at the end of the day when it was time to go back to the motel and clean up and get ready to eat at some of Muncie’s fine restaurants.
Of the 176 pilots that registered with Connie Bussell and her crew at the Farmhouse, there was a good mix of aerobatic models, Warbirds, and just good ole flyers that have been popular for years.
The Safety inspectors checked approximately 260 aircraft over the 4 days, headed by IMAA Dist. VI Director Steve Darlington and his crew. Gary Bussell, the CD, and his crew kept the flight lines and transmitter impound running smoothly all week also. The Aerobatic models could hover and slide downwind on the windy days and the Warbirds could do their sorties to dazzle the crowds.
All Pilots and IMAA Officers seemed to enjoy the AMA site and facilities and want to come back again soon. We
would like to thank all our sponsors that helped on the pilot give a-ways and the Raffle we had at the IMAA tent.
They were JR Radios, Horizon Hobby, Giant Scale Planes, Robart Mfg. Products, Zap, Model Graphics, Life Like
Scale R/C Pilots, RC Hobby Center, Vel Tye Velcro, Wright-Flyr Enterprises, Air Tees, Diamond Custom Panels,
Zurich Sunglasses. Thanks to all.
We had a cross section of the United States with a strong group from California that was there for the Homecoming
the week before the Rally. We had them from Canada to Florida and from Maine to California.
The members of IMAA Chapters 48, 64, and 651 want to thank all who came and had a good time at your National
flying site.
Jim Mahoney, 2002 President Chapter 48
