Chapter 679 has secured the Chowchilla Airport for the IMAA District Ten West Coast Festival, formerly known as the Castle Fly In. Jim O'connor, Scott Malta and Dave Gunnin worked really hard got the blessing and got a big round of applause at the City Council meeting.

The flying site is great and there is plenty of parking, although it will be laid out differently because of the hangars. Please be understanding if there are some growing pains due to the move. We hope to have this as a permanent site for our fly-in and the city really want us. I will be sanctioning the event and it will be in the spring HIGH FLIGHT. I will be getting my newsletter/pre-reg out in late February and will have information about early arrival. We are thinking of maybe not doing the Saturday dinner as we won't be at the Museum. E-mail me back to input how you feel about just having it at the site or maybe in a hangar there.

I will be out of the country from Dec.22 to Jan 7, so please don't use my cell # 510-414-4953 and e-mail might be spotty. Feel free to call me at any other time.

District I Mini-Fest is cancelled.

Central Connecticut Giant Squadron, Chapter 392, Labor Day fly-in in Bloomfield, CT is being washed out by Tropical Storm Ernesto. Heavy rain and high wind is predicted for Saturday and rain for Sunday. Sorry, flyers, but there will be no fly-in this year! It's a tough call, but our decision is "safety first". Please keep us in mind for next year. Put it on your calendars. Labor Day weekend (Sat-Sun) 2007.

With the sponsorship of retiring District Director, Frank Ponteri, the Board of Directors voted to elect me to complete Frank's current term. Over the years I have developed a good relationship with many of the board members and officers and with their support I am sure that I can achieve much with the board to serve District I as you would hope. I've met many of you over the years and look forward to meeting all of you on the flight line.

The 2006 flying season is still well under way and I wish to invite you all to attend the District I Mini-Fest this Labor Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, in Bloomfield, CT. Details are in HighFlight. I'd love to see as many District I members as can make it come by to enjoy a fabulous fly-in. Our host club, Wintonbury RC Club, has a great field and a super membership that loves to have our Big Birds fly there.

Attention District One Chapters,

In a few short weeks the flying season will begin(hopefully). It is now time to determine the location of the 2006 District One Mini-Festival. Last year this event was hosted by Chapter 392 on the Labor Day weekend. The IMAA reimburses the host chapter up to $500 to offset the cost of holding the event. Some restrictions apply.

If your chapter is interested in hosting this event, please contact me by March 31, 2006 with the details of your event. This event is traditionally a two day event.
