I had the opportunity to attend the 1997 Chicago R.C.H.T.A. Model Show in October, spending time with many of the High Flight advertisers as well as some of the Chicago area I.M.A.A. members. We were all impressed with the number of giant aircraft model products that were premiered at the exposition.
Almost Ready-To-Fly giant J-3 Cubs were on display at both Byron Originals and at the Horizon/Hangar 9 display booths. The quality of these ARF's is truly exceptional and this type of easy to complete aircraft should help some of our members get into the air quicker than building a giant Cub from scratch.
Byron Originals also has a new Cessna 195 coming out around December, 1996 that will require more conventional construction, but it was truly beautiful in its red and white color scheme. Al Tuttle, of Byron Originals, described the new Cessna for me and we discussed possible power plants that could be installed. It looks like a real winner. More and more of the manufacturers at the R.C.H.T.A. show are catering to large aircraft, engines and associated electronic equipment. I saw more ARF's than in previous years, but I suppose that just reflects our general "hurry up" society. Lots of neat stuff will be appearing in the next few months for our large aircraft. We will try to review the best in future issues.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members who have sent in letters and Faxes during the past couple of months. Over 200 communications have been received since July and we really appreciate your input and thoughts.
