On the Cover:
Dauntless! ... a distinctive name for a distinctive aircraft. This is Walt Moucha's original SBD-3. It spanned 120 inches, and was powered by a 3W 150 twin. Walt equipped the plane with flaps, dive brakes, tail, wingtip and
landing lights, and Hank Likes retracts. It was painted with lacquer primer over 3/4 ounce glass cloth, and finished with Lowe's latex paint. It was beautifully weathered and had over 10,000 hand applied pin heads for rivtes.
Sadly, we talk about it in the past tense... because it flew away, straight and level. Only the tail section was found floating in a water filled rock quarry. Before its demise it had 83 flights, won 6 “Best of Show” awards, and flew
at the Top Gun contest. Plans and semi-kits are available from Walt, if you'd like your own Dauntless.
