On the Cover: Fall 2007

Sara and Kelcy Yunghans hold up the Aeronca L-16 surveillance plane on our cover. The L-16 was an Aeronca Champ in a military uniform. This one was built from the new Aeronca Champ plans from Wendell Hostetler. It is powered by a Zenoah G-26 engine, and uses yellow Solartex covering, which was finished off with a coat of Rustoleum American Accents clear matte finish. All of the graphics were done with computer cut masks and spray painted.

Oh yes, we should probably give credit to the builder of the plane, who happens to be Sara and Kelcy’s grandfather.... Walt DeFrees, former District 9 Director (former... a couple of times..). Walt lives in Leavenworth, Kansas. Walt credits his grand-daughters for helping him get his construction article out of his computer, and onto a CD disk. "It only took them a minute!"
