JODEL F-12
Review by Chuck Spencer IMAA 821

The next plan is also one by Jerry Van Heeswyk of 231 Sunland St., Louisville, Colorado 80027, Phone 303-666-9523 of the JODEL F-12. This is a 2 place low wing home built in third scale and is another big airplane... This plan and a twenty page instruction book and a copy of the brochure on the large one can be purchased for $35.00. I'm very favorably impressed with this plan. It's a good looking airplane the plan shows the construction to be quite simple and straight forward and there is a photo documentation packet available for $12.00 that is very complete.

The plan comes on three sheets. The first sheet shows a left side view and the fuselage is built with 1/8 mahogany ply sides with lightening holes cut from the trailing edge to the tail post. Turtle deck formers are from ply with stringers and sheeted with balsa. The canopy is built up and is hinged at the top on the right side. Hinging and latch mechanism is shown on the plan. The fin and rudder are built up. The firewall is 1/2 inch ply and engine is mounted to a half inch ply box. I would assume one of the larger Sachs engines is used. A heavy duty CB tail wheel unit is used. A fibreglas cowl and wheel pants are shown but I guess you will have to contact Jerry as to the availability.

Sheet two has the left wing plan and rib patterns with fuselage and cabin formers. Ribs are 1/8 mahogany ply with lightening holes. Spars run top and bottom of ribs and I would use vertical grain webbing or make an I-beam of them. This wing has polyhedral on the last three bays near the tips, which also contain the ailerons. The wing is completely sheeted in the center section and is sheeted from the leading edge back to the spar and the trailing edge is sheeted. Ribs are cap stripped and the wing is covered with fabric. This type of construction should make a very strong wing.

Sheet three contains the stab and elevator plan which is built up and the landing gear pattern which is made from aluminum. Wheel pant mounting and assembly is also shown along with more fuselage bulkheads and the rear cabin window pattern. I would say this is a very good plan and should build into a sweet looking and flying airplane. The plan is well worth the price.
