The next plan is a 40% scale PIEL EMERAUDE by Jerry Van Heeswyk of 231 Sunland St., Louisville, Colorado 80027. This airplane is a 126 inch span, weighing 35 pounds and takes an engine of 3.1 to 5.2 Cl displacement. Wheel pants, cowling and side windows are available from T&D Fibreglas of Garden City, Michigan. The plan sells for $40.00 and is well worth it.
Fuselage is built from 5/16 square longerons, with 5/16 x 1/4 diagonals and cross members. The inside of the fuse is lined with 1/8 ply back to the trailing edge of the wing and all joints are gussetted. The firewall is reinforced with spruce triangle stock. Rear deck formers are from 1/8 balsa or lite ply with spruce stringers and hard balsa stringers on the bottom.
The empennage is entirely built up of balsa and spruce or Bass and is removable as a unit for transportation. The landing gear is bent from two pieces of T6 aluminum.
This airplane has a very pleasing wing, being eliptical with squared off tips. The main spar is 3/8 thick by one inch high and tapered toward the tip and is of spruce. The leading edge is balsa covered back to the main spar and the leading edge is 1/2 inch square hard balsa spliced near the tip and set diagonally into the rib leading edge ribs are 1/8 balsa and ply and ailerons are built up and hinged near the top. All wing ribs have lightening holes. This airplane also has flaps and a very good hinging and actuating arrangement.
This plan comes on three sheets with fuselage top and left side on one sheet and the wing and rib templates on the second sheet. The last sheet has the fuselage side layout and all the formers and the stab and elevator layout. The wing is built in one piece.
This is a very good plan and should build into a nice
flying model. I feel that the plan is reasonably priced and you will be
happy with it. The plan also comes with a full set of instructions and
drawings, photos and three views.
