STITS PLAYBOY - DGA Designs
Review by Chuck Spencer IMAA 821

Stits Profile

Our Editor brought me a set of plans from DGA Designs, 135 East Main Street, Phelps, NY 14532, Phone 1-315-548-3779. These plans are of the STITS PLAYBOY. Reminds me a great deal of the Bowers Fly-Baby, in plan form, but the lines are different. As the instructions say, this is a home built and no two will be alike, but built as the plans show and a Q-50 for power. It's a super performer. It is 1/3 scale and weighs in at 23 pounds. Span is 88 inches, wing area is 1548 square inches giving a loading of 35 ounces. After looking at the plans, I am sure it could be built at least three pounds lighter!

PLAN SHEET ONE:
Has fuselage left side view with fin and rudder. Longerons are quarter square bass, with quarter square uprights and diagonals, and all joints are gusseted from the trailing edge forward. Read deck formers are 1/8 x 3/8 hard balsa stringers. Landing gear is formed of one piece aluminum. With a C.B. Tailwheel assembly. A glass cowling is available from T-D Fiberglass Specialties. Fin and rudder are built up from balsa.

PLAN SHEET TWO:
Stab and elevator are on this sheet, also shows the ply dihedral joiners. Stab and elevator are built up of balsa.

PLAN SHEETS THREE AND FOUR:
Wing panels, left and right are shown on these two sheets. Wing strut detail is also shown on the wing plans. The main spar is 3/8 square bass both top and bottom of ribs, the rear spar is 1/4 x 3/8 bass both top and bottom of ribs. Both could be made as an "I" beam for greater strength with little weight gain. Ribs are cut from 1/8 balsa sheet and four from 3/16 ply. Ailerons are built up and operated by a bellcrank system. This is a fairly simple airplane and could be built fast and be a great flyer. Price of the plan is $25.00 shipped from the above mentioned source.
