BOEING P-26-A "Pea-Shooter" - Jim Pepino
Review by Chuck Spencer

v8-2-26a.gif - 12.6 K

While in Toledo a few weeks back at the Weak Signals R/C Exposition, Jim Pepino of Scale Plans-Photo Service handed me a set of drawings and said to look 'em over tonight and let me know what you think. In my motel room that evening I spread the drawings out on the bed and they were on the Boeing P-26-A "Pea-Shooter." I think this is every model builders favorite and Jim Pepino has done a bang-up job on this set of plans. This set consists of four big sheets, well detailed drawings.

Sheet Number One:

This sheet shows the left side of the fuselage with fin and rudder. The fuselage is built on a crutch, with formers added, then stringers and sheeted. No engine is shown, but the cowl is available from both T&D Fiberglass Specialies or Fiberglass Master. The landing gear is the dog leg type, similar to the Gee Bee and Ryan and has working shock struts. Lansing gear fairings are also available in fiberglass from the sources mentioned. Fin and rudder are built up with fin leading edge sheeted and fabric covered rudder. There are two types of tailwheels shown and both are right, both swivel.

Sheet Number Two:

This sheet shows the top view of the fuselage with crutch and actual construction layout. Horizontal stab and elevator are shown full size. Construction is similar to the fin and rudder. Some fuselage formers are shown full size.

Sheet Number Three:

This sheet shows a full size front view, and is very impressive. Also shown is the landing gear set up and construction and all brace wires and attachment points.

Sheet Number Four:

This sheet shows the full wing layout which is built in one piece and has a span of 80 inches. Airfoil section is a Clark "Y". Ribs are 1/8th inch balsa and are cap stripped. Ailerons are built up and are of the friese type. Robart hinge points are used for the hinging and flaps that were on the late production model are shown. The rear fuselage formers are shown on this sheet. This very good set of plans are available from Scale Plans - Photo Service, Greensboro, NC. Price of this set of plans is $40.00.
