This plans set consists of 3 big sheeets and is of
a quarter-scale Aeronca KCA and is offered by Pat Massey of Pampa, Texas.
Sheet Number One:
This sheet shows the left side of the fuselage.
Construction: Longerons, uprights and cross pieces and a few formers.
Basic fuselage is quarter inch birch dowels. The construction looks
light, but very adequate. The cabin area is plywood and scale built-up
working landing gear is shown. The sheet also shows the fuselage top
view and fin and rudder construction. A scale tailwheel and rudder horn
are shown also, with the method of construction. The fuselage is
reinforced in the cabin area with ply and the seat and floor are also
shown. Suggested power is the Gemini OS 160 twin with two dummy cylinders.
Finished weight is around 16 pounds.
Sheet Number Two:
This sheet shows both left and right wing panels. Wings are built up on two "I" beam spars. This is quarter inch square spruce sparts with shear webbing in between the ribs. Also shown are the scale trut fittings and the location and angle of same. Ailerons are also scale in shape and hinging, and are of the friese type. The plans also show a Futaba S28 servo at the root of each panel, linked to a belcrank at the aileron station. Stabilizer and elevator are also shown on this sheet and are built up similar to the wing panels. Airfoil section is of the Clark Y type.
Sheet Number Three:
This sheet shows the fuselage top view and full-sized cabin interior with details of seat, instrument panel, control wheels, cabin door, rudder pedals. There is also a top view of the cabin area showing the top window and even a fire extinguisher. A view of instrument location, windshield pattern, strut patterns, landing gear struts and engine cowling patterns. There is also a five page instruction manual.
The way these plans are drawn and with all the details shown, it is almost as if Pat had the full-sized job sitting in his back yard. (Note: Pat took flying lessons in this same model [full size] back in 1938. Ed.)
