Next is a quarter scale Fairchild PT-19 "Cornell" by Jim Pepino. I have a friend of mine who has the Pilot Kit in quarter scale of this airplane, looked at these plans and now wishes he had not bought the kit.
Fuselage of the Cornell is built-up of quarter square spruce longerons as are the uprights and diagonals. Top decking is 1/32 inch ply or 1/8th inch balsa sheet. Formers are 1/8 balsa. Engine used which is shown inverted is a Super Tigre 2000. The cowling is available from Fiberglass Master. (see advertisement in this magazine). Empennage is built-up from balsa, and the tail wheel is in the scale position and moved by internal connect ions. Large wing fillets are built-up of ply or your favorite method. The wing is built around quarter inch spruce spars and balsa ribs and split flaps are shown. Ailerons are built-up and operated by a bellcrank system. The wing is built in one piece and has a quarter inch dihedral joiner of ply which the quarter inch landing gear wire attaches to. I would want to see large servos in this job and at least power by a Super Tigre 3000. I do not have any specs, but it looks to me like the projected weight of at least 20 to 25 lbs. The price o this plans set is $24.00 shipped folded or $27.00 shipped rolled in a sturdy tube. Send to Scale Plans-Photo Service at the mentioned address.
NOTE: The coverings on all these models reviewed are
of your own favorite choice, same with the finishings.
