Originally built and flown by "Mac" MacAtee of Westland, Michigan, plans by Wendell Hostetler from that original. Plan set consists of two BIG sheets, 3'6" x 8'0". Sheet Number ONE shows the top and side views of the fuselage in precise detail, with all former positions and former patterns and other wood parts. The fuselage is fully sheeted, as are the Sirius" from Wendell.
Horizontal and Vertical stabilizers are constructed built up balsa and fabric covered. Fiberglass cowl and parts (fiberglass) can be obtained from T and D Fiberglass Specialists. Power plant shown on these plans is a Q-50 Qusadra and the mounting is very adequate. Firewall is built up and secured substantially, epoxy coated to good protection. A very large access hatch is just forward of the windscreen as with the "Sirius". Radio installation positioning is well defined. Color and detailing is indicated on this plan sheet also.
Sheet Number TWO: Wing panel detailing (construction)
is shown in two versions: one to make a wing 84" in length and the other
to make a wing 75" in length. All ribs, horizontal stab construction,
wire forms of the main gear and other hardware are clearly shown. Gear
is very adequate and should support the model very well. Wing is both
balsa sheeted and fabric covered as with the real aircraft. Color scheme
is all silver with black detailing with decals in their proper places.
Power suggested 2 to 5 h.p. Specs: Span: 84" or 75", Length:
70", Weight Estimated 18-22 lbs., Area: 1275 sq. in., Wing Loading
approximately 35 oz per sq. ft.
This model has been featured in two
different issues of High Flight and was on display during the
recent R/C Exposition at Toledo, Ohio in late March (1985).
