HEATH BABY BULLET
By Chuck Spencer 821

Next plan is for the Health Baby Bullet in one third scale, by Jim Pepino. Span is 74 inches and weight is about twenty pounds. Jim says his flew well with the Gemini 1.20 four stroke, and even better with the Gemini 1.60. Jim has a smaller model that he has been flying for five years and says it is a very easy airplane to fly. This airplane is 100% scale in outline and can be purchased from the same address as the Piper Pawnee for $27.00 folded and $30.00 rolled, plus $2.00 shipping.

The plan comes on two sheets. Sheet One: Shows the fuselage left side view and a top view with the complete empennage also shown. The fuse is built of quarter square balsa longerons, uprights and diagonals. The fuse is reinforced with quarter inch hard balsa from the rear of the cockpit forward to the quarter inch plywood firewall which is reinforced with large pieces of triangle stock. I do this to all my airplanes. The cowling which is three different sections is fiberglass, and is available from Fiberglass Master. The cockpit cowling is from litho plate sheet and is hinged on the left side with a piano hinge. Piano hinges made from litho sheet are very easy to make and a piece of 1/16 piano wire is used as a pin. I use a utility knife with a new blade to cut litho plate with and to make the hinge. It looks nice and is easy to use. The print on the litho plate can be removed with fine steel wool. This landing gear is rigid as per the full sized craft with a cross axle. Jim suggests five inch balloon tires for Sunday flying and covered five inch wire wheels for competition. The entire empennage is built up of balsa and bass and uses a strap hinge. Both rudder and elevator are cable controlled. the very sparse scale instrument panel is also shown on this sheet as is the full sized landing gear drawing.

Sheet Two: Shows both wing panels and rib template and even a template for built up rib, plus all fuselage formers. Wings are built of top and bottom front spars of 1/2 X 3/8 hard balsa stock and the rear spar is 3/8 X 3/4 hard balsa stock. Ribs are from 1/8 sheet balsa. The leading edge is sheeted both top and bottom 1/8 soft balsa sheet. Wing panels are of the plug in type with aileron servo mounted in the root bay of each plane. Ailerons are built up and both the ailerons and the wing panels have internal drag and compression bracing. Wing panels are mounted with tubes. There is also a small three view on this sheet.

This is an excellent plan with much detail. I've seen Jim's smaller model and I've seen it fly, and it is a good flyer and since he won the North Carolina state scale championship with it one year, you know its pretty close to scale. This plan is simply an enlargement with changes regarding maintenance and accessibility drawn in. You can't loose with this plan.
