WACO A.R.E WINDSHIELD
By Larry Sewell
I am building Dario's Waco A.R.E. When it came time
to put on the windshield, the plans required painting the metal outline
on. I did not much care for that so I came up with this solution.
- Cut template from 1/64 ply.
- Use template to cut out windshield.
- Cut out metal part of aluminum but add 1/8 material to the bottom.
- Cut out holes and cut evenly spaced cut lines.
- Cover with double back sticky tape and use the AL for a guide
to remove excess tape.
- Remove tape backing and stick on the windshield.
- Gently bend the tabs and then push the assembly in place.
(I was able to keep it in place with closepin clips on either side)
- In each tab drill a clearance hole for 0-3/8 wood screws
(round head)
- [Missing from article].
- Looks good and stays put.
I don't think I invented the wheel, but I sure haven't
seen this done this way before.
