One of the major problems that we have when constructing the size planes that we are interested in, is getting a piece of plank wood that is long enough, or splicing two pieces together at an angle. The method developed by Jim Follin not only eliminates this problem, it yields a joint that perfectly matches, is very easy to do, and gives a joint that is stronger than any other place on the plank.
To make the joint, overlap and tack-glue two pieces of
wood so that they give you the length/angle that you want the finished piece
to have. Then make a wavy saw-cut through the overlapped edges.
Break apart the two pieces, discard the wavy-cut ends of both pieces,
and join the two pieces along the cut. They will fit perfectly,
since they were both cut at the same time.
