STRONG CONTROL HORNS
FOR BIG MODELS

Idea by Vince Mariani
Text/Drawings by Larry Chaney

If you have found that your control horn twists after hooking up your pushrods, here's one idea that might help. Use one left and one right control horn, Goldbert or Du-Bro and Rocket City's Number 77 Heavy Duty Ball Link. Rocket City's number 77 link was designed to fill a need in quarter scale plans. The nylon is molded around the precision ground ball for life-time zero tolerance fit. They added 50-percent more material around the ball than their reular "Missing Link", and increased the body diameter and tapped it out for a 4-40 push rod. The hole in the ball will fit a number 2 screw.

When building your plane, build in the 3/32" plywood plate to mount the control horns. You should also build a 3/32" plywood doubler to help spread the load. Use 2-56 screws to attach the horns and epoxy the nuts to the top of the plywood doubler. By epoxying the nut you can remove the horns for covering.
