I am going to be buying a 2.4 Ghz radio, in fact, it will be my first computer radio. I am interested in either the Futaba 12Z or the JR 12X. I want a good all-around radio that will be usable for many years. I want to fly all sizes of models, from 40 size to 40% scale giants, and even helicopters. I've heard that the Futaba 12Z is hard to program, and that many people have had bad luck with Futaba's 2.4 ghz receivers. Does anyone know if Futaba has solved their problems with the receivers? Several guys I've talked to like the JR radios best. The 12X looks really nice. It is limited at all in programming capabilities over the Futaba 12Z? Will I be happy with the JR 12X? Is it good for helicopters? I've also noticed that Duralite advertises a Lithium Ion battery for the JR 12X transmitter. It this a good battery to replace the NiMh battery it comes with? A well-known hobby advertiser told me not to put any Duralite batteries in my transmitter. He said they use inferior quality cells and that Lithium transmitter batteries are not reliable long term. He said to stick with the Nimh battery. I don't want the hassle of keeping a nickle battery cycled, etc. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Glassed, primed and painted with Kylon Paint. Fabric covered Elevators and Rudder. Bottom of wing is covered with Super Coverite, spider cracks in paint in open area's, shown in pic's and some small paint stains on bottom of wing, shown in pics. Little grain showing on Ailerons, shown in pics. Cowl has a small crack on top that has been repaired, also shown in pic's. Left top of wing has a stress crack that has been repaired, also shown in pic's. The FW is structually sound and RTF, just the finish on bottom of wing is not berfect. This was one of two original Rainbow Hawks that he built for himself. A company called Hartman Fiberglass used to make fiberglass kits of the plane for around $600 for which Mr. Thoms received royalties. The kits are unfortunately no longer available since Mr. Hartman passed away. The wingspan is 64" and the length is 60". The plane does not have an engine but should be ready to fly other than that. The plane is more of a collector's item than anything, Mr. Thoms flew it numerous times and after the 100th flight he decided to retire it. The only defect is a small tear in the end of the top wing which can be seen in the pictures. The cockpit even contains a model pilot that was designed and built by Mr. Thoms.
