Louie Dubrul <ldubrul@aol.com> Santa Maria, Ca. USA - March 12, 1999 at 15:9.44 Dear Sir: Hello. My name is David Scott. I am beginning my 12th year of Professionally Instructing R/C Aircraft since opening the 1ST U.S. R/C FLIGHT SCHOOL in 1987. As I'm sure youre aware of, beginners are the largest segment of our sport, and since the inception of my School in Shawano WI., I have trained more than 700 people to Solo. I primarily train those people who because of time (work, family, etc.) need to concentrate their "learning experience" into a full week of Flight Instruction through Solo. 1998 was my second year of 100% success. I gauge this not by student satisfaction, which I've maintained for years now, but by the fact that 100% of the students trained in '97 & '98 continued to Solo on their own after they returned home after only 5-days at my School, and I'm quite proud of that. My reason for contacting you is to ask if you would list my School, or if you come across people, because of time, location, and/or other constraints, who are having difficulty getting started or making progress in R/C, it may be of benefit to us all if you could direct and inform them that a proven longstanding R/C Flight School does exist, and could be an option to achieve independent Solo status in a concentrated week of flight training. Thank you for your time and have a great 1999. David A. RANDY BOYNE <snuggle1@teche.net> BERWICK, La. USA - February 21, 1999 at 21:41.30 I am an old time modeler, but a new giant scaler. I have a Hostetler Weddell Williams (84"span) done in the Roscoe Turner Gilmore livery. I would appreciate any comments on electrical systems. I plan a dual battery pack system with heavy wiring to remote servos. 4.8volt packs and a "battery backer" selector that chooses the better pack. I plan a mechanical 'kill' switch and a radio operated electronic 'kill' switch. The engine (G-62) has an electronic ignition, so I will have most of the wiring and batteries for that on the forward face of the firewall. Any comments? Ted Brindle, Indianapolis R/C Modelers Ted Brindle <flyindy@indy.net> Indianapolis, IN USA - February 7, 1999 at 17:58.28 I am writing this message as a comment on the HI FLITE magazine. The new format is very attractive and most of the subject matter is pertinent. However, I have a problem with this magazine when I see ARF subjects taking up space that could be better served. ALL of the R/C mags depend on ARF advertising therefore they BETTER do reports. I beleive that the part of the hobby our magazine serves can do without ARF reports. I have my old AMA number back and am looking forward to building my first Giant Scale model, a Dave Platt Bücker Jungmeister, to be powered by a Saito FA-150 four-stroke. It won't be ready to fly until probably next year, but I have a number of WW I subjects on my CAD system right now for future building- most of which haven't been even DONE in Giant Scale before! I have flown two biplanes previously...a small 42" wingspan Jungmeister from Gordon Whitehead plans, and a scratchbuilt 2" scale Fleet 16B Finch modeled directly on Old Rhinebeck's example. I still have all my small ships, and look forward to building and flying the large Jungmeister as my first Giant! All my model engines are four-strokers, as I got rid of all my 2-stroke engines back in 1985-and will ONLY use 4-stroke engines on any Giant Scale models that I intend to build and fly. Just thought I'd stop in and write...and can't wait to get to the Jungmeister!!!
