
The Balsa USA FlyBaby Monoplane is a follow-up to their very popular FlyBaby biplane which was introduced over 30 years ago. This new monoplane version of the Pete Bowers designed homebuilt features a ton of fabricated metal hardware, and even allows the wings to be folded and pivoted... just like the full size. Dick Pettit reviewed the FlyBaby monoplane in the Spring issue of HIghFlight (but we had a technical glitch, and the biplane article appeared with the monoplane photos. M U N C I E – The U.S. Senate late Monday joined the House in passing the first full FAA Reauthorization Bill in more than four years. In passing the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 both the House and Senate included a provision aimed at protecting model aviation from burdensome regulations. The President is expected to sign the bill into law.

As I write this it is January 1, 2012. Hope all of you had a good Christmas and Holiday Season with a good start for 2012. The beginning of the new year brought us 60 degree weather unlike the last year that brought ice and snow storms with severe weather warnings.
We are now in the building or repair season, mostly repair this year for me. I love this time of the year, building and finishing my favorite models. For me the trade shows and swap meets are great places to meet people, talk about their winter projects and exchange war stories.

The greatest model aviation event took place at Triple Tree Aerodrome in Woodruff, South Carolina May 8 thru 15, 2010. This year was the first time the now famous Joe Nall fly-in was scheduled for an entire week. This event is now the largest IMAA event in the world. This year the total registered pilots were 964 up over the 820 last year.
Around the HighFlight editorial office, giant scale models aren’t the only thing that flies... Time seems to do the same... at about Mach 3. It seems like maybe a year or two since I took on this Editor job for the IMAA, but in truth, I’m starting on year number nine in January.
