District III Update - July 2010 Posted: Jul 06 2010

Hello Everyone from Dist 3

As you know the IMAA has launched it's first Build a Big Bird contest. I hope that everyone in dist 3 gets involved with this, and will pass the word on to all your friends and fellow flyers. As you know all of the IMAA directors are working very hard to get more AMA members to make the jump to big bird flying. This contest is one way that we are trying to get more AMA members to join us for all the fun, and enjoyment that we already know about as IMAA members. I would like for all of you to push just a little and get that guy that may be thinking about building that first big bird. Get him to join the IMAA and who knows, for the price of a prop, he may be the winner of one of the prizes we are giving away.

There are different categories to build that big bird under so you may having to think about it a little.

I hope that you are having a great summer of flying and that you enjoy being an IMAA member.  If you have any questions or comments that you would like to ask me please feel free to email or call, I am always willing to talk and listen to you the members.

Fly safe and I hope to see you at an IMAA fly in soon

District Update – April 16th 2010 Posted: Apr 15 2010

Hello Dist 3 Members,

I would like to take the time to ask if any of the chapters in district 3 would like to hold this years mini fest ( or next year ). I know it’s kinda late but there wasn’t anyone interested as far as I know. So just in case you didn’t know… our district will help you with this event by helping your chapter with a little money to.. 1 improve your field ..2 maybe put up that safety fence you’ve needed..3 buy a few raffle items..4 help buy a generator for the electric your chapter has always wanted. Remember this is to help with the improvement of your field, not to buy dinner for everyone. Think it over, or ask a club that has held this event before, (weather permitting) you will have great time and meet lots of new and older friends.

If you didn’t get a chance to see for yourself, the Toledo Expo was again the best in the world of flying R/C. There was some magnificent planes, on display, and the vendors had a great deal of new items to show and sell.

I would like to say thank you to all the members that stopped by the IMAA booth this year. We signed up 22 new members and 90 or better renewed their membership.

This is what it takes to show the doubters that we still have what it takes to be a strong and viable organization. With out the IMAA I really don’t think we would be flying the planes we do today. With the help from the founders of the IMAA , the volunteer officers, and members alike, we have let the AMA know that we are safety minded, and that we are not out to cause problems, but to prevent them.

Thank you members of District 3 fly safe this summer, and I hope to see you sometime soon/

Ron Shonk

Dist 3 Dir. IMAA

PS Ask that fellow AMA member that flys the big bird to join the IMAA, I am hoping that everyone would help sign up 1 new member this year. Let get our district back on top. ( Don’t let California and their District beat us.)

District III Update – January 2010 Posted: Jan 12 2010

Hello Dist. 3 members,

If you are reading this, then you have already seen a HUGE improvement on our website. I would like thank Roy Barrow for taking on the job of webmaster, and doing a fantastic job.

Did you know you can now sign up or renew your membership online? Check it out!!!!!

I would like to tell everyone in District 3 that our annual directors meeting was a very productive one, and that all the directors for IMAA have set a balanced budget, and even saved money of the 2010 year. We are trying to save everywhere we can, and I personally hope that you are satisfied with what we (I) are trying to accomplish.

I would like for every member to help make our district stronger by signing up just 1 new IMAA member in the next year, or get a recent member to come back, and join us again. Our strength lies within the IMAA to talk with the AMA on different subjects concerning the flying of giant scale (size) airplanes. Without your support and input we may not have been able to fly the planes that we do now.

Did you know that the IMAA is the biggest (SIG) special interest group, within the AMA? Are you a member of an IMAA chapter? Did you know it only takes 5 AMA members to join the IMAA, and to start an IMAA chapter? Did you also know that there is no cost to start an IMAA chapter? Are you in a club that sanctioned a big bird fly-in, but did not sanction through the IMAA? Did you know that IMAA will pay for your sanction to the AMA? If you would like to talk about any of these questions, please email, or call me, and I will be more than happy to help in any way I can.

I would like for all chapters to think about holding our district 3 Mini Fest this year. As most of you know, we did not have one last year, and that may have been due to the economy. If your chapter would like to hold the Mini Fest, or would like more info on what is involved, please contact me as soon as you can, and I will get you all the information needed. Don’t forget that the IMAA will help with some of the costs also.

One last thing, I would like for all Dist. 3 members to please send me your email address. I will not give it out to anyone, and I will not bombard you with unwanted emails. I would just like to have it so that I can inform you as to anything within the IMAA that would be of great interest, or importance to you.

**Editor’s Note: Click on your name displayed toward the top right side of the screen (below the menu bar) to edit your personal profile including your email address.  It is no longer necessary for you to contact anyone should your personal info change…just click and update your email address or your profile (mailing info).**

Thank you and I hope to see you at the Toledo Expo this April. Stop by the IMAA booth and say hi

Ron
